ARTHUR E. GIMMY, MAI, PRESIDENT

Gimmy, MAI is the President of Arthur Gimmy International, a firm currently employing ten appraisers, plus support staff, located in Corte Madera and Newport Beach, California. He started in the appraisal business in 1959 and received the MAI credential in 1965.

Mr. Gimmy has taught many appraisal courses during his career including ones at San Jose State, UCLA, University of Tampa, University of Connecticut and SMU, and he also has served on numerous local and national committees during his career, including The Appraisal Journal Editorial Board for 15 years.

Most notably, Mr. Gimmy has been a prolific author, having published nearly fifty articles on a wide variety of appraisal topics, and authored various books in use by appraisal professionals. Those published by the Appraisal Institute or its predecessor, the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers, include: Tennis Clubs and Racquet Sport Projects, 1978; Elderly Housing, 1988; Fitness, Racquet Sports and Spa Projects, 1989; Golf Courses and Country Clubs, 1992; Healthcare Enterprises, 1996; Senior Housing: Looking Toward The Third Millennium, 1999; and The Business of Show Business: The Valuation of Movie Theaters (2000); Analysis and Valuation of Golf Courses and Country Clubs, (2003).

Mr. Gimmy has been a pioneer in the analysis of a variety of difficult, unique, or specialized properties and appraisal concepts. He is much sought after for expert testimony in litigation matters involving large and complex real estate and business issues.

His awards include the Professional Recognition Award in 1975 and 1978, and the highest honor, the George L. Schmutz Memorial Award from the Appraisal Institute in 1996 at the Chicago meetings.  The Schmutz Award was established in 1959 and is for "his special contribution to the advancement of appraisal knowledge."
